Pioneer Presbyterian Church

On our Thanksgiving trip up to my parents' house we booked the church we are getting married at! It is the oldest, continuously running Presbyterian Church west of the Mississippi. It is a classic little brick church, complete with a little steeple. It is a small Church, but it will hold 120 people in the pews and they can add about 30 to 40 extra chairs along the side, which should be MORE than enough. There isn't much of an aisle to walk down because of how the church is set up, but Danny said he likes that because it means that it will take less time for me to get up to the front next to him :-) The church has a neat history, and I will write a post about that later, once I find the little brochure the church lady gave me. farmerbosse - This account has pictures from our 2008 Europe trip. We went to Amsterdam, Vienna, and Prague. There are a TON of pictures. I haven't had a chance to really go through and make a "best of" album, but there are some really beautiful pictures!

farmerbossewedding - Right now the only pictures here are the pictures of us that appear in the sidebar slideshow. Eventually this will be where our friends and family can upload the pictures they take at our wedding, and where we will post pictures from the honeymoon.

Busy, busy, busy...

So I know I promised I would update this wedding blog on a regular basis, but things have been SUPER busy around here. We haven't been doing much wedding related stuff this last week, besides collecting mailing addresses, figuring out how to address the envelopes, organizing the stacks of save the date materials and stuff like that. Nothing too exciting, just very time consuming. This weekend I will post some pictures of our disaster of a living room so you can get a feel for the chaos that comes with getting the save the dates done lol.

Until then, wish me luck on my "Physiology of Tate and Smell" practical tomorrow! Just for fun I will post my menu of 5 appetizers I created for tomorrow so you can get a sense of what I am working on in school right now. For our test we are given three out of five possible proteins and we have to make an appetizer out of it. We only have a strange assortment of ingredients we can use so it makes it really interesting to try to come up with something that might actually taste ok lol. We have to combine different types of flavors and "pushing" and "pulling" tastes. Weird, I know.

Sauteed Sea Scallops with Leeks and White Truffle Vinaigrette
Sea scallops marinated in white wine, lemon juice and thyme. Sauteed in a pan until golden brown. Served on top of a bed of leeks sauteed in butter. White truffle vinaigrette is drizzled over the scallop.

Grilled Striped Bass with Parsley Compound Butter and Bell Pepper-Pear Salsa
Grilled striped bass, topped with parsley compound butter and served with a chilled red bell pepper-bosc pear salsa.

Pan Fried Pork Tenderloin Medallions with Caramelized Granny Smith Apple
Pork tenderloin medallions marinated in soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Pan fried until golden brown. Served on top of a caramelized apple slice. Finished with a pan gravy and scallions. A play upon "pork chops and apple sauce."

Grilled Curry Shrimp Satay with Spaghetti Squash Slaw
Grilled shrimp with coconut-curry sauce served on a bamboo skewer. Served over spaghetti squash slaw made with apples, celery and carrots in a tangy vinaigrette.

Salmon en Papillote Trio (en papillote = cooked in oven in a parchment paper pouch)
A trio of miniature papillotes is presented. Each papillote contains a small bite sized piece of salmon, each cooked with a different key ingredient: red bell pepper, dill, and lemon with thyme. This is done to show how the flavors can each enhance the flavor of the fish in different ways. Each papillote performs the same function of enhancing the salmon's flavor in successively bolder, more intense ways.

Big Week Ahead!

Danny and I are going up to my parents' house in Oregon for Thanksgiving. We are also getting married in my parents' town, and we are having the reception at my parents' house. Which means that while we are up in Oregon for Thanksgiving vacation we will get to do some big wedding related things such as:

1) Looking at the church to make sure we really want to get married there. My mom says it is really cute, so I'm not too worried about it. It is the oldest Presbyterian church west of the Mississippi. It is a cute little brick building with stained glass, and a steeple. It looks just perfect from the outside, so hopefully the inside will work!

2) Danny's favorite part of the whole wedding planning process...cake testing! We are going to try 6 different types of cake. I can't wait!

3) We are going to go try the food from the caterer my mom found. It sounds like it will be great.

4) Check out the fancy hotel in the town. It is right on the water, and is supposed to be beautiful. They don't have a "honeymoon suite" per se, but they said they can use the really nice room as a honeymoon suite which works great.

Yay for getting more of the "big" decisions made!

Wedding Cake Topper

Danny and I found this beautiful cake topper on ebay today! We really wanted a cake topper that was elegant and more like a sculpture than some weird plastic thing with creepy faces painted on the figures, but I still liked the idea of having a bride and groom instead of some abstract sculpture piece. I randomly googled cake toppers because one of my "Wedding Tip of the Day" websites was talking about cake toppers and how expensive some of them can be. We found this one for only $30!

It has a Shakespeare quote on it: "Now join your hands, and with your hands your hearts." I think it is so pretty that I wouldn't mind having it out on a shelf somewhere even after the wedding. Danny and I also liked that the bride and groom were the same height lol. Most of the cute wedding toppers have a really short bride, and I am not short at all!

****UPDATE*****
So I have gotten a TON of hits on the wedding website regarding this cake topper! We are talking about hundreds. People are searching for wedding cake toppers in google images and then clicking on the picture I have here. I have had a couple people contact me asking where I bought it so I figured I would just go ahead and update this post with that info:

It is a piece made by "Gina Freehill." Gina actually contacted me and told me that she has a new website where you can buy lots of her items including the cake topper! Here is the website:

Cake Tasting!

So my mom asked around and got a recommendation for a baker to make the wedding cake. We are going to make an appointment over Thanksgiving vacation to go try a bunch of different wedding cakes. Once we have the cake testing we can always tweak the cakes a little bit in case we want a different type of frosting, or we want one with white cake instead of chocolate, etc. Here are the descriptions of the six types of cake we want to try:

Rustic Pear Cake
A spice cake made with our own pear butter and bits of dark chocolate layered with a spiced rum mascaroine cream.

Chocolate Raspberry Prailene
Chocolate buttermilk cake layered with a dark ganache, sweetened mascarpone cram, fresh raspberries soaked in Framboise, and a sprinkle of prailine crumbles.

Pumpkin Gingerbread
A moist cake made with warm spices that can be layered with cream cheese frosting.

Hazelnut Gianduja
A creamy milk chocolate infused with hazelnuts made into a creamy mousse. Then we add more toasted hazelnuts and layer it between our chocolate buttermilk cake.

Cassatta Torte
Vanilla cake soaked with kahlua & esspresso, then filled with a sweetened ricotta and chocolate chip cream.

Citrus Cream
Zesty lemon butter cake layered with mascarpone cream and lime curd.

Danny definitely thinks this is one of the best parts of the wedding planning!

Customized Postage Stamp

The lady who made our monogram also designs customized postage stamps for no charge! She makes them and uploads them to a website named Zazzle. Here is what our postage stamps are going to look like:



Isn't that neat?! It is too bad that it has to have the weird barcode thing on it, but it is better then some random stamp from the post office!

Custom Monograms

We got the monogram proofs today! They looked amazing! I would definitely recommend Pink Designs. Here are some pictures of the two monograms that we bought:
We are going to have her reverse the names so it says "Danny and Stephanie" because we both think that sounds better and would look better. She will also write the correct wedding date on it. Here is the other one (She will also make the same changes to this one):

She is now in the process of making stamps that look like the first monogram that say "Happily ever after" and return address labels that also look like the first one. We are getting two sets of return address labels. The first one will say "Daniel Farmer & Stephanie Bosse" and the second one will say "Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Farmer." We thought it would be really fun to have a set for before the wedding, and a set for after the wedding! It will be really nice to not have to hand write all our return addresses also!

Does anyone have some good ideas of things to put our monogram on for the wedding/rehearsal/afterwards even?

Save the Date Cards

Our save the date cards have shipped! They should get here in a day or two, since they are just shipping from Mountain View, CA. Here is the online proof that they sent me, so you can see what they will look like:

They are a folded note card, so when you open them up they will be white and have our save the date refrigerator magnet inside.

Everyone's computer monitor will show the teal color a little differently, but they should at least print some shade of teal! Aren't they cute?

The invitations, monogram, and stamps will have the same (or very similar) motif which will be nice to have something to tie everything together a little bit.

Personalized Chocolates

One of the things we are going to put into our wedding favor boxes is some candy. We wanted to have the candy coordinate with our wedding colors. However, there isn't a ton of teal colored candy...surprise, surprise.

However, we did find two candy items that we can get in teal! Later, we will go to the candy store to pick out some purple candy.

The first teal colored candy will be teal colored M&Ms. Normally they are really expensive if you buy them online through M&Ms company, but because we don't need a ton of them, we can just get them at the town candy store in Danville for a reasonable price. Yay!
The second teal candy we will have will be assorted mini Hershey's chocolate bars (Milk, Dark, Krackle, Mr. Goodbar) with a personalized teal colored wrapper. Ok, so the candy itself isnt teal, but it still counts!


They will say "Danny & Steph" on the front, and "Mr. & Mrs. Farmer, June 6, 2009" on the back. They were quite reasonably priced, and such a fun idea! The funny part was that they offer two options:
1) Order the wrappers to come already on the chocolate bars
2) For a few cents per bar cheaper, you can just order the wrappers and put them on your own candy bars.

I almost considered ordering just the wrappers and buying bags of chocolate at the store. That was until I realized I would have to sit there and unwrap all the chocolate bars and rewrap them with my labels. No thank you! I think my time and eyesight and sanity are all worth the couple of cents I would save lol.

Yay Progress!

I have been using The Knot as my wedding planning website. It is a very well organized, helpful website.

Except for one thing... they have a feature in which they send you little reminders of how many "tasks" you are supposed to have completed, how many tasks you are supposed to be working on, and how many tasks are left to be done before the wedding. They are broken up into weekly segments. When you finish a task you can check it off the list and it moves it from the "to do" tally to the "finished" tally.

Sounds great, right? It is, except that it keeps reminding you how many tasks are "over due." Every time I log in it tells me I have 161 things to do, and 21 are over due. It makes me feel like I haven't been doing anything! All my planning, and I still have 161 things to do?!?!

So I thought I would write about all the things I HAVE gotten done, so I feel like I am actually making progress and am accomplishing something!

Business casual (slacks, button down shirt, tie optional) would be perfect. We want people to be comfortable enough to have fun and enjoy themselves! If you would like to dress up more that is fine too!
WEARING LAYERS IS ENCOURAGED, IT IS OREGON...
While June typically has nice weather, it can still get quite cold once the sun goes down. Oregon weather can also be a little unpredictable, so it can be nice one moment and then overcast another. Please at least bring a jacket. You can always leave it in the car, or hang it up inside the house.
PLEASE WEAR SENSIBLE SHOES!
The wedding reception will be outside at my parents' house, and six inch stilettos have a habit of getting stuck in the grass ;-)

Popping the Question

On October 23, 2008, One Year, One Month and One Day after we first started going out, I decided it was time to pop the question. My decision to ask for her hand in marriage was brought on during my trip in Europe. We had spent two weeks together traveling about and then I spent another two weeks traveling alone in Italy. During those two weeks in Italy I came to the conclusion that I wanted to share my travels and adventures with the women I had spent the previous two weeks with. The fact was that everything I saw was muted because she was not there and I never wanted to have that feeling again. I then decided to ask for her hand in marriage!

Coming up with how to pop the question is a question in itself and so I consulted my brother, Todd and brother-in-law, Chris. Many ideas were thrown about and so I took ideas from the two and formed one ingenious plan.

So on the appointed day we set out on a drive, me in the drivers seat and Stephanie cluelessly questioning me with questions about where we were going for she knew something was up. (It's not every day that a boyfriend asks his girl to go on a drive to a surprise destination midweek). After an hour drive we arrived in San Francisco. We continued up to historical Coit Tower and parked.

Since Stephanie figured out I was going to propose I had to have a couple of aces up my sleeve. I therefore left the ring box in the car, making sure Stephanie saw that the box was staying but we were going. With this fact in her mind she was lead to believe I was going to ask at a later time in the night. We began to walk around the monument together and eventually found a spot away from the tourists and other sightseers and sat down on a bench. I began telling her how much I loved her and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, sharing every experience with her. I then slowly pulled a red handkerchief from my pocket. Inside the handkerchief I revealed the ring . Meanwhile I had gotten down on one knee. No sooner had I done that then I burst out, "Will you marry me?!". Although my speech was quite rapid at this point I got the point across and Stephanie shook her head yes, although she made me ask one more time and only after that did she say, "Yes!!!" I had taken her compeltely by surprise because she thought the ring was still in the car.

After the ring was on her finger we stayed where we were, looking at each other, the ring, and the sunset over San Francisco Bay, simply taking in the moment and knowing we had just started on another amazing journey together. After a time we went back to the car and drove to Restaurant Americano.

I had reserved a table and upon sitting down Stephanie notice a bouquet of a dozen red roses sitting on the table. She once again began to cry with a huge smile on her face. Throughout dinner we continued to stare at each other stargazed. The table next to us bought us some celebratory wine in honor of the occasion. After the meal the waitress even bought our desserts.

The night was a complete success...mainly because she said "Yes!!!!!!!!"

Danny and Stephanie live in Pleasanton, CA with their two "unique" cats, Harley and Zoe. Stephanie is currently trying not to kill/maim/destroy her brand new garden, while Danny is currently trying to hurry up and finish the brick wall for the garden before it starts to down pour every day...it may be too late for the wall, considering the fact that it is raining right now...

About Danny
Danny graduated from the University of Oregon in 2008, with a BA in History. He is currently going through the process to become a substitute teacher...which takes forever! He will be entering a teaching credential program in the summer of 2009, to become a high school history teacher.

About Stephanie
Stephanie graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR in 2007 with a BA in Chemistry. She then received her Masters in Chemistry from the University of Oregon. She is currently attending The Professional Culinary Institute in Campbell, CA to further her love and understanding of food and feeding people. She will be entering the same teaching credential program as Danny, in the summer of 2009. She hopes to eventually become a high school chemistry and general science teacher.

How We Met
Danny and Stephanie met in September 2007 in Eugene, OR. Danny was starting his senior year at the University of Oregon, and Stephanie was just starting graduate school at the University of Oregon. Stephanie took some summer courses with Morgan, a friend of Danny's. Morgan decided that Stephanie needed some friends in Eugene so she might as well just adopt his friends! So one day, Stephanie invited Morgan over to a Sunday dinner she was making and told him to bring some of his friends. Morgan invited Ryan, Julie...and Danny. Little did Stephanie or Danny know that Morgan and Julie had secretly decided that Danny and Stephanie would be perfect for each other. Danny coming over to dinner was a secret set up!

With the grace and sleekness of a pigeon in an avalanche Morgan set about placing Stephanie and Danny in alone time situations. Subtlety is not one of Morgan's strong suits, by the way. ;-)

Danny first realized that he liked Stephanie when they went to see their very first, very romantic movie together..."Shoot 'em Up." Stephanie laughed during the ridiculous movie and Danny loved that a girl could laugh at such a stereotypical guy movie. Stephanie realized that she first liked Danny when she had more fun sitting on the couch playing Yahoo's "Text Twist" game with him, than she did hanging out with everyone else at the party.

Over the next couple weeks, Danny and Stephanie started hanging out more and more, including conversations going on well into six in the morning...or just a couple of minutes in "Stephanie Time." It was after one of these conversation during the movie "Mission Impossible" that the two found themselves in front of the "guy's house" at two in the morning. It was the end of the night but neither wanted to leave each other's presence. Danny felt an urge to kiss the beautiful girl before him but was unsure about what would happen...he was worried about leaving later with a red cheek from a well placed slap! After an eternity of gazing into the beautiful girl's eyes he went in for the kill. He smooched her...and she kissed him back!!! It was this gleeful moment the adventure began.
