Candles

by Stephanie
Our wedding reception is going to be outside. Which means that Danny and I both thought that having supre fancy table decorations would seem out of place. We both wanted a more "country" feel to the reception.

I started looking around for table decorations and I came across people using tea lights, or votive candles in mason jars. They would put some sand or some beads in the bottom of the jar and then rest the candle on top of the sand.

I liked the idea but it just wasn't quite right. Not to mention, I didn't want to have to either buy sand for the jars, or haul it back from the beach! But I loved the mason jar idea. I kept looking around online to see if there was something similar to this idea...
And then I found this picture:

Instead of using sand and tea lights, they just poured the melted wax into the jar itself and made their own candles! I love how it makes the whole jar glow.
So I went to the craft store and bought one mason jar, some wax made for putting into glass containers, and some premade and weighted wicks. I haven't had a chance to make one yet, but I am really hoping it turns out to be pretty easy. I also love this idea because the flame will be a little protected from any wind which is nice too.
What do you think?

And they lived happily ever after...

  2. If nothing else, I could see using that to line the porch at my wedding site. I don't see it fitting in with my vision of the centerpieces, but that doesn't mean we can't find a way to use them in our wedding.

Our vision for the tables is this: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/24/diy-details-centerpieces/ - I think I will continue purchasing the cheapy candles and rent some glass for the centerpieces, and possibly use the mason jars outside. Yep.

However, I did find a site where we can get paper lanterns for mega cheap, cheaper even than the rental site I'm thinking of using. The place where I think we could purchase the lanterns is lunabazaar.com - Martha Stewart Magazines recommends this site. However, rather than purchasing their really expensive string lights, I think I'm going to go to infusecreativity.com and rent their LED battery packs, because then the lanterns can be randomly scattered and can be placed wherever is convenient / aesthetically pleasing. I think I'm also going to get mirror tiles from this site, since I can rent them and then send them back after the wedding. I am also going to rent a table-top easel from here for displaying the menu on the buffet table and stuff.

Are you planning on having any flowers on your table? I still can't decide. I might get freeze-dried rose petals and scatter them amongst the candles.

I hope that all made sense. I'm way super tired, lol, but I was too excited about sharing wedding ideas. So I had to do it tonight. =P

There's more... but... I need sleep soon. I'll probably reply to you on Facebook too before I head to bed, LOL.
